Happy 72nd Birthday Al Jarreau!

March 12, 2012

Happy 72nd Birthday to jazz artist Alwin “Al” Lopez Jarreau!

Born March 12, 1940, Mr. Jarreau is still performing in 2012: his schedule can be found on his Official Web Site.

Mr. Jarreau had had many hits during his long career — but one of my two top favorites is the song “Moonlighting”  (US #1 AC, #23 Pop, R&B #32, UK #8) which was used as the theme for the TV show of the same name.

I was hooked hooked on the show, that co-starred Cybil Shepherd and former bartender turned novice actor Bruce Willis. Every week I turned in like thousands of other viewers, to see if the characters David and Maddy would get together or not (LOL)

My other favorite is Mr. Jarreau’s  live rendition of  “Look to the Rainbow”  from the 1977 Warner Brothers Live LP of the same name (US# 49, R&B# 19, Jazz# 5). It sends chills through me on every listen.

We love you Al Jarreau and wish you many happy returns of the day and many more Birthdays to come.
